My first Birthday and Christmas with JD

This is my first birthday and Christmas with the hubs. First together and first as married couple. Well, this is not the kind of first na very memorable. I am sorry, but I was expecting too much. That is wrong. On my birthday, I wanted to do something special. (Bukod sa first namin together, first time ko to be in a relationship after 20yrs). I asked him to take me to a Japanese restaurant. Well, he did. When we woke up that morning, I was video chatting with my family and I ran to the kitchen so I wont disturb him. I found a card and a little box in the counter. Kinilig ako of course. I didnt open it until he got up. It was an earring that looked very similar to the one he gave me on VDay. He bought same time pala and he's been keeping that earrings since February. Pano kaya yon if di kame nagtagal? Or kung umuwi ako ng Pilipinas nung April diba?! Hahaha After breakfast he just sat in the sofa playing his game again on his phone. Parang, ah ok lounge day kame I guess. Around 11, s...

SS

Image
Two days ago, I called the SS Henderson office to make an appointment to get a SS. Background story: It says on my notice letter that if I included in my form that I needed SSN I just have to wait 7-10 working days for my SS card to arrive. But I was not sure since it was the lawyer who filled up the forms for us. I called the Lawyer's office to ask if they asked for SS in my form, the assistant said if I filled here in the US, they didn't include it and I have to apply personally. After days, on hold and keep dropping my calls someone finally answered and gave me an appointment. He gave me a date and time, asked for my name and number. And fast lang, isang linggo lang may appointment na ako. But I am still hoping that the lawyer requested for SS, kase hello?? isang question and box lang sa form yon para lampasan pa nila. Everyday I asked my husband to check the mail. So yesterday I told him we'll check the mail, coz you know.... He didnt say anything and handed me to envel...

Update on my Green Card Journey

Image
It's been 4 months since I last updated my application post. I have been checking updates but since walang bago, ayoko mag post. Haha But today, alam na this baket ako may entry. LOL So, last night bigla ako nag-check ng case ko online. I think it's because Domz sent me a MISSU message on FB. Then last week Aunt Debbie asked me about my status here. I checked last week wala pa update and I checked again how long ang processing time ng bawat application ko.And 8-1/2 months pa ang Travel. Kahapon I was talking to my sister about it pa kase sabi ko in case mauna ang Travel permit (Form I-131 a.k.a. Advance Parole) ko, before I receive my Change of Status (Form I-485) or Working Permit (Form I-765 a.k.a. EAD) uuwi na lang muna ako ng Pilipinas para asikasuhin lahat dapat ko gawin. Around midnight last night I decided to just check my status. Aba bongga, approved na yun Forms I-131 and I-765 ko. Yey! Thank You Lord! Now I can look for a job. Na-excite ako masyado at di ako nakatulo...

One year away from home

I am celebrating my first year here in the US today. This is the longest I am away from home, my dad, my friends, my brother, from my car haha not seeing Glorietta or Shopwise. Not being able to drink cucumber beer at Rue. Not wearing a face shield. Not experiencing the Manila traffic and the pollution. The noise of the rooster and dogs, the noise of the kids outside, or the neighbors shouting, cursing at each other. Even the all day all night karaoke of our neighbors. I miss my bed, I miss my fridge, I miss driving. I miss the mall. I miss the smell of pinoy foods. When I flew here, I thought I will only be gone for 4-1/2 months. I thought I will be meeting Bryan and Brandon. Thought I'll be back in time for summer and hoping makapag beach na ulet. I was hoping pa for Brandon to be my boyfriend you know. LOL But God has a different plan for me. A better plan. Better plan to what I planned for myself. And I love it. I am thankful for his BETTER plan for me. It truly is worth the wa...

Biometrics Appointment

Image
Jason and I arrived at 8:43am, there was a line already. Pang 6 ako sa line. Stood there for maybe 10mins. While in line, the lady guard was checking all our appointment letters and ID's. I gave my drivers license.  And nung time na para pumasok, one by one sila magpapapasok: You need to put your stuff on the tray for x-ray (purse, watch, jewelry, and if you have anything on your pocket. I guess parang sa airport, naka dress ako and walang pockets kaya yun lang nilagay ko), then you can go inside na. There was a line again, screening I guess. The lady will call you pag turn mo na, they will check your appointment letter again and ID, this time I just handed my passport, for me mas madali lang kase yun ID sa pila sa labas). She then asked me to raise my two hands, checked front and back. And since I already put Duncan on my forms, she asked if I just got married, I said yes, then she asked if I have my marriage license with me, I said yes and handed it to her. She then wrote somethi...

On getting a Green Card

I will try to remember and share everything on my processing my papers here in the US. May 3, 2021: Calderon Law Office A month after the wedding we went back to the lawyer telling her we did get married and we're getting her as our Immigration Lawyer.  She gave us the retainer agreement and we signed it. And paid the 50% non-refundable downpayment. Said she or they will handle everything. All we need to do is prepare and give her all the forms and requirements needed. Hanggang sa interview namin.  Then all filing fees are: Her fee is $4500, plus $50 for miscellaneous. So that's 50% down $2250 + $50 miscellaneous = $ 2300.  I-130 Petition for Alien Relative $ 535.00 I-485 Adjustment of Status and Biometrics Fee $ 1,225.00 I-765 Application for Employment Authorization $ 0.00 I-131 Application for Travel Document $ 0.00 I-693 Immigration Medical Exam + Vaccines (Price depends on which clinic and what vaccines are you getting. I did mine at Partida Corona Medical Center and...

Countdown on Becoming Mrs. Duncan

Image
March 25: Immigration Lawyer Appointment It went really well. Atty Visia is really nice. Discussed about expenses, forms, waiting time, etc.  She gave us two options: We can do the petition while I am here in the US or I go home then mag-submit pa lang ng petition, mas mahabang proseso.  Of course we wanted the easiest option. Kaya we asked her also if ok to get married first before my I-94 expires. She said yes, even if they stamped my passport with "Correa vs Thornburgh", kaya she checked on the website, wala daw note sa I-94 ko and since they allowed me to stay and they X'd it sa passport ko, I'm good. And if we get married naman daw, void na yun I-94 ko, coz married nako with an American Citizen. We said we'll let her know if we decided na we needed a lawyer's assistance.  March 26: Dress buying We didn't have much time, so we just went to Macy's and JC Penny. Found a nice dress but besides sa too long for me, di namin maisara. Hahaha I'm fat. ...

It's official.

Image
Yeah, we made it official already. We talked about it on Wednesday (03.17.21), kilig na kilig ako sa message nya.  I cant believe I am now a someone's fiance.  Nung Monday, sabi nya bibili kame ring ng Wednesday. Super excited ako, parang sya din naman. But when we arrived sa outlet, ang tanong lang nya "Do you want to go inside? Do you want to check" weird. So medyo nainis ako ayoko ipahalata. Baka kase nag assume lang pala ako na bibili kame ng ring.  But then nung evening na, ayon we talked. So sabi nya sige friday bibili na kame ng ring. And nagtingin pa kame online.  Friday came, he said punta kame sa Galleria by the Sunset kase 3 jewelry stores nakita nya. But when we got there, ay siguro 6 sila. Hahaha  Una (at di na kame nakalipat pa sa iba) namin pinasok was Zales. Buti pinay yun sales lady. Nakapag explain ako sa kanya. So nagpakita si ate ng sets. Pero walang solitaire. I told her gusto ko ng solitaire, so she showed us mga solitaire rings nila. ...

Flying to the US during Pandemic

Okay, I've heard horror stories coming to the US especially if you're Filipino.  May mga nakilala ako thru Bureau of Immigration's FB page sa post nila regarding Non-Essential travel. Mga nakatanungan usually about travel insurance. Nauutal ako at naba-blanko ako. Anyway eto naman ang experience ko. November 19 I arrived the airport 8ish at ang flight ko was 11:50pm, Korean Air. ...
